What is out of control sexual behavior?
Out of Control Sexual Behavior is a problem in which consensual thoughts, urges and behaviors feel difficult to control or stop. You may be wondering why I'm not just saying "Sex Addiction" or why I keep putting "Sex Addiction" in quotations. This is because it is a popular term used in our culture that my clients may or may not identify with. However, I come from a sexual health perspective rather than the addiction model. This means that we will not just focus on managing problematic behaviors-- we will also explore how you can still experience sexual pleasure without consequences. I have done extensive training in the OCSB Model and am a Certified Sex Therapist, NOT a CSAT.
So what constitutes a problematic behavior? There is no quantifiable amount of sex or porn that automatically indicates a problem. There is also not a checklist of particular consensual sexual acts or interests that indicate a problem. What matters is how YOU feel about your behaviors and how they are impacting your life.
